Open Event Details
Open Event – Tuesday 29 September 2020
Each year, we usually provide three open events when Year 6 girls and their parents can visit the school to assist with their choice of Secondary School. These events provide opportunities to visit the school, meet staff, see and talk to students and hopefully obtain a good understanding of how we operate.
We are sorry that this year’s Open Evening and Open Mornings will not be able to take place as normal and are having to be modified in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the impact on the normal operation of the school. Our Open Evening was initially planned for Tuesday 29 September but unfortunately, we will not be able to welcome any prospective students or their families on-site on this day. The same is true of all other schools in the local area.
We know how much students and parents look forward to visiting us before making a decision and submitting the application for the next stage of a child’s education. Families want to see the school in operation, consider the ethos and culture of the school, talk about the provision and opportunities available and meet staff and current students. Providing a suitable alternative to the usual open evening and morning tours is going to be a big challenge.
In place of our usual events, we are working on a range of online resources to allow you to see our school site and facilities and also hear from our staff and students. Our Virtual Open Evening will be available on our website from Tuesday 29 September and we hope you will join us online.
Secondary Transfers for September 2021
The school participates in the Hertfordshire County Council co-ordinated scheme for admissions. All deadlines within this scheme must be adhered to by applicants. Hertfordshire County Council will make offers of places on behalf of the school.

Secondary allocation day is Monday 1st March 2021. If you applied online you will receive an email from Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) on this date. If you applied on paper then you will receive a letter in the post.
Accepting your place: if you are allocated Hitchin Girls’ School and wish to accept your place then you must do this either online or on the paper form provided by 15th March 2021. Responses go directly to HCC and do not come back to the school.
Continued interest: if you are not allocated Hitchin Girls’ School and it was ranked higher than the school you have been allocated then you will automatically be added to the continued interest list.
If you do not want to stay on this list then you must let the Hertfordshire County Council Children’s Services Team know immediately.
All Local Authorities have a statutory duty to coordinate all in-year admissions (primary and secondary) for all maintained schools and academies. This means that all applications for, and allocations of, in-year places must be made via a child's home Local Authority. All parents living in Hertfordshire who wish to make an in-year application must apply online to Hertfordshire County Council at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions and not by applying direct to schools. At transfer time, parents wishing to appeal who applied online should log into their online application and click on the link ‘register an appeal’. For those who did not apply online, please contact the Children Schools and Families Customer Service Centre on 0300 123 4043 to request an appeal pack.
